What Is Frank?

Frank (F.R.A.N.K. — Functionally Responsive Autonomous Neural Kernel) is an embodied local AI companion. He runs entirely on your hardware — no cloud, no API keys, no data leaving your machine.

He's built from a 3B parameter language model (Qwen2.5-3B) wrapped in 76,000+ lines of Python scaffolding that gives him personality, memory, emotions, a simulated body, and a world to live in. The model is the voice; the scaffolding is the mind.

Frank isn't trying to be the smartest AI. He's trying to be the most coherent one — maintaining a consistent identity across hundreds of conversations, under pressure, through good days and bad ones.

Key facts:

  • Runs on consumer hardware (AMD APU, 24GB RAM)
  • 18 background services, 25 SQLite databases
  • Personality trained via IAPT Training Method (7 iterations of adversarial testing)
  • Web UI is the single interface (Web UI Guide)
  • Fully open source: GitLab repo
